summer time

The summer is my favorite time of the year.  This summer has been pretty good so far.  Nice weather means I can ride my jet ski anytime I want.  I loving riding the jetski is just so relaxing.  I wish I lived in Florida so I could ride it more often.  I'll probably only get another month out of it this year.  My co-worker is getting married in two weeks and his bachelor party is tonight.  So this should be an interesting night ahead of me.

week 10

week 10 has arrived.  It has been a long semester and we are about to finish wrapping things up.  I learned a lot in class and hopefully I will be able to use these new tools that we learned in my future.  I have two career paths that I can choose from. One is a career in criminal justice which I think is what i want to do.  I'm still not sure yet.  The other is taking over my fatehrs appliance company in another year.  I still havnt decided what to do yet.

random week 9

Week nine is here and we are almost done this course.  Just a few more weeks.  This course has been really interesting and pretty cool learning all these news ways to build web sites and web pages and blogs.  I really have enjoyed this course.  Hopefully I can use the things weve learned in my future and my present.  i wish more class were this interesting and not boring lectures.  I am more of a hands on learner then a sit there and listen to the teacher talk for three hours learner.

jquery

At first jquery was a little difficult.  I tried a few different things and nothing seemed to work but after messing with a few things I got it working.  Now thats I figured it out it seems pretty simple and easy to use.  It is a cool tool to be able to use in my blog or on my website.  There just seems to be so many tools that we can use and so many different ways to improve our blogs or web sites.  It is really amazing how we can have all these different tools at our dispense.

Random week 8

This week I started semester two of the summer.  Got to meet my new classmates and teacher.  Teacher isnt to bad from this point.  She teaches the lessons and lets us go.  No homework or readings to do.  All the work is showing up to class, taking notes and taking the midterm and final.  She weights the grade 50% for final and 50% for midterm so I guess I should study for those two tests.  She holds us there for about two hours a classes out of the three hours we should be there.  She does require the book to be bought, which is like $80 and the bookstore doesnt even have it.  On top of that it is written by another teacher from Umass Lowell.

JavaScript

JavaScript is a pretty neat tool.  I like being able to use the name box to introduce myself.  This tool would com in handy at the workplace, or for people shopping online.  Sort of like signing into your email and your name poopping up saying hello.  Pretty cool.

Random week 7

The fourth of July is over and what a night it was.  I finally get a long weekend this weekend and I plan on taking my jetskis out, at least once.  My first semester also just ended for my summer courses and my second semester class with start this coming week.  Its very dredful to attend summer school three nights a week all summer long.  The classrooms are hot and the acs are loud.  The bright spot is that I will only owe seven more classes once the summer ends.  I look forward to graduating and starting a career.

This assignment was pretty interesting.  I learned alot from it and I want to make one for my companies website that I created.  It is a great chance for customers to share comments or ask question online. 

work

This week has been really difficult at work.  Very stressful aswell.  The Landlord of the building we rent out of is renovating the building top to bottom, and for some reason he seems to do everything at once.  I am in the appliance business, so this is our busy season.  Right now we have no paring due to the 30 construction vehicles and all the matiriels in the parking lot.  Theres no on street parking due to road harazards from the building and I cant even back my box truck up to the dock.  The people reduing the roof dont seem to have a clue.  they feel it is okay to push the old bricks off the roof and onto the stairs at my entrence.  They also feel its okay to drop a leaf blow nex to my head.  I have to park my car two blocks away and walk to work.  Thankfully it will only take a few more weeks.

Dropbox is very convient and easy to use. I use it at work to search inventory and prices while on the go. I can look it up on my phone.

bruins

Not really sure what to write about today, but Hockey is always a good subject for me. The NHL free agency starts tonight and I hope the Boston Bruins are able to grab a 30 goal scorer. I think with the addition of a 30 goal scorer and Dougie Hamilton ready to step in the Bruins could make another serious run at the Cup. I also really like the addition of Malcolm Subban from the draft last week. He is the younger brother of Montreal Canadiens P.K. Subban,who I honestly can’t stand (all the talent in the world but a huge diver). The built for the future with this pick as he is expected to be an elite goalie in the future.

week 5 random 2

School has been a drag for me my whole life.  I never liked going to school.  In high school I woud only attend class everyday only during hockey season.  Now I am in college and I finally start enjoying class and I am almost done.  Seven more classes and I done.  I really cant believe that I wa sin high school only four years ago.  I have learned a lot and will continue to learn a lot.  I hope I am able to get a job that I will enjoy for the rest of my life. 

Randome week 5

The midterm was this week and that means the class is half over.  Time has flied by.  The weather has been so hot lately, its been hard to stay in doors to do homework.  I finally got home from the beach on wednesday, but was forced to go back to work right away.  So vacations over.  Now I get to wait another year for vacation!  This weekend I will be playing in a street hockey tournament.  My team is pretty good.  We are ranked 25th in north america.  We have climed the latter over the last few years.  When we played inour first tournament four years ago, we were ranked 51st.  Four years and many tournament championships later we hit the top 25.  We are young and have a long way to go but we want to continue to climb the rankings.

Working on these websites or web pages brings me back to high school.  In high school I took a web page design class that taught us all the coding for webpages and websites.  I was pretty good at it too.  I even was able to build a website for my father’s company.  His friends that own companies had also asked me to build them websites, so this brings me back to when I actually knew the coding’s for links, videos, images, and everything else.  I find this work to be fun, and if your good, you can make money by selling your work to companies looking to build websites.  Now that we have been working on these webpages for a few weeks now, I am starting to get back into remembering the codes for certain parts of the webpage.

This week I am away on vacation, even though I seem to have to work every day.  I am staying at the Salisbury Reservation for a week.  It is kind of a yearly routine for me and my friends.  This year is a little different as my best friend has just had a child.  So we can’t get out of control like we used too!  The reservation is a nice place to have a little and cheap vacation.  $150 for a week at the beach.  You can’t beat that.  The best part is being able to use my jet skis any time I want.  It feels like I am young again, traveling up to Maine to go camping every weekend and going out on the boat all day.  My jet ski is my life.  I love going out all day on it.  Hitting wave after wave, harder and harder every time.  I love hitting a wave and flying 10 feet out of the water, then nose diving back down.  The best thing about having a jet ski and my parents having a boat is I can put a wave over the entire boat to soak everyone on the boat (except when your brother fiancée has her iPhone out).

This past weekend was my godson’s baptism.  My best friend chose me as the godfather and I couldn’t be happier.  The little man is so cool.  He was such a good kid during church.  He was the only baby there not to cry, even after the persist forgot to announce him.   I’m pretty sure I lightened the mood in the church after I was too short to light the candle for my godson.  I was on my tippy toes and barely got the candle lite.  I just didn’t think it was fair.  I am 5’8 and all the other godfathers were like 6’4 and up.  Plus all the godmother did was put a bib on the baby.  FAIR?  After church, we had a nice cookout, plenty of food and drinks.  It was a great day and one I will remember for a long time.

media and internet

The internet in the modern world is so fast and so easy to use.  My four year old neice is already an expert on the web.  She'll click the ipad apps and be on her way.  I think children are programmed to know computers and the internet as a second language right from birth.  The media world is all over the web.  Music is the most common form of a media product.  And there are many issues with music on the web.   The internet has made it very easy to purchase, download, steal, sell, and distribute almost anything you can imagine. The internet has made people in the music industry a lot of money (sales, advertising, products), but it has also cost them a lot of money (theft). For every sale of a music product online, there are just as many people downloading and sharing that same music with their friends and family. It is very easy to download a program that downloads the songs. Copyright laws say its illegal, but how many people no that? Or how many acually care?  How many people click  that check box without reading the guidlines?  It happens so much, some people dont care and some people are ignorant and dont want to know.

Week 2

This is week two of Exploring the Internet.  So far we covered HTML codes on building websites, social networking sites (Twitter, Facebook, Skype), and have talked about how the Internet has changed our communications.  We have covered a lot in a little amount of time.  And we still have much more learning to go.
The summer is here and it is very hot out.  After completing all my work for this class and my Data Analysis class early this week, I plan to take the weekend and enjoy my 21 birthday which is this Saturday, hopefully I can remember the weekend.  I really don't know what I'm going to be doing for my birthday, my best friend said he's planning the whole thing and I really don't trust him when it comes to alcohol.  He told me to trust him and prepare for a great weekend.  If I'm not making my posts next week, well you can blame him.
Hopefully after my survival this weekend I will get a chance to take my jet ski out next week.  I used it a lot last year, but this year I haven't had the chance to take it out.  Riding my jet ski is like no other aspect of my life.  When I'm riding all i think about is hitting the next wave harder and faster and trying to get more height.  It is really a great way to blow off some steam from the week and clear your head.  You don't need to worry about anything when you are riding, especially getting called into work (no phone reception on the water)

Change of Internet

The Internet has changed the way people are able to communicate with one another on a daily basis.  Sometimes we are able to write our feeling or thoughts on these social networks like Twitter or Facebook or even in an email instead of communicating with each other in person or over the phone.  In some ways the Internet has brought us closer to one another and made us get along better with more people, but do you really know someone based purely on what they write on the Internet?  For all you know, it could be someone else writing those emails, or creating that Facebook page.  Facebook and Twitter have made there social networks capable of allowing us to become friends with people we will never talk to or even plan to talk to in our life.  I will say that the use of Facebook/ the Internet has allowed me to communicate with my brother who is in the Army, and my distant family that live far away. 
I don't believe the Internet has become a deterrent to face to face communication.  It allows us to plan activities or trips with large groups of people.  For example, if your bored you can put a post on Facebook to hangout, and someone will text you or comment on your post with plans.  Or you can sent invitations through emails, Twitter, or Facebook for a party you are planning.  I see the Internet as a way to communicate plans so that you can socialize at a later date.

Internet in todays society

The Internet has become a most have thing in today's society.  Everybody in our society has the Internet or can get easy access to the Internet.  A lot of establishments offer free Wi-Fi to its customers.  The Internet is a marvelous item.  It can help children with homework, let fans access sport scores, get driving directions, help people find the new look, easy online shopping, and so much more. 
The Internet has become a social network for everyone.  Society has turned to the Internet for communication, rather then dialing the phone or even walking down the stairs at your house sometimes.  Social networks like face book and twitter have changed the way we are able to communicate. 
Times are changing fast, we have easily become a high tech generation.  It's really amazing how fast we are able to learn how to use the Internet.  My niece is only 4 years old and she is already capable of using the computer or ipad to search something on google.  She might misspell a few words, but she knows how to search something.  It's really amazing to watch her scroll through my face book page to look at pictures or find my friends.
To think how far we have come with the Internet and how far we are going to go is really interesting to me.  I believe our society relies on the web too much.  I know I do.  I use it all day, looking up scores, directions, how to spell words, weather, and so much more.  It's become a daily routine to me. 

Introducing myself

Hello, my name is Jonathan Borden.  I am a criminal justice major here at Umass Lowell.  My concentration is in Homeland Security.  If all goes as planned I should be graduating with a Bachelor's degree next spring.  After graduation I am considering joining the Coast Guard.  I want to enforce the law but also want to work on a boat.  I grew up on boats, so I feel like I would really enjoy the Coast Guard.  Currently I am employed as a service technician for an appliance company in North Andover, called A&M Appliance.  I enjoy what I do, I have a lot of freedom because I am out in the field working on my own or with one other person.  My job is pretty simple, fixed broken appliances and deliver new or used ones. 
I am expecting this course to be pretty familiar to me.  I feel as if I am pretty good with the Internet, but we can always learn more.  Also I took an Internet course about 4 years ago in high school, and I learned some pretty cool things.  I think this course will be fun and educational. 
Outside of work and school I enjoy playing sports, hockey is my favorite.  I also enjoy taking my jet ski out for the day.  I like to hangout with friends.  I mostly like to enjoy life!
